This video from Big Cat Rescue is filled with lots of important and interesting information about sand cats. But none of this information is more interesting (to me) than the fact that the scientific name for sand cats is Felis Margarita! I thought that this was so awesome I put an embarrassing amount of time and effort into making this tribute to sand cats:
Someone had to do it! Now sand cats have their very own mixed drink! For our 21-and-older readers, here’s how you can make your own Felis Margarita:
- Pour the following ingredients into a shaker glass:
• 1 oz Triple Sec
• 1 1/2 oz Tequila
• 1 oz Lime Juice
• 1 3/4 Mango Juice
• 1/2 oz Grapefruit Juice
• 1/2 oz Orange Juice
• Ice is optional; Sand cats thrive in both warm and cold environments! - Shake feverishly!
- Salt the rim of your glass (this is the “sand” in sand cat!)
- Pour the shaken ingredients into your glass.
- Add two triangular orange wedges as garnish for cat ears. Make sure you cut a slit in the rind so you can stick them them on the glass upside down — otherwise it’ll look like a Scottish Fold.
- Let a cherry sink to the bottom for the nose.
- Enjoy responsibly!
That’s it! I’m not much of a drinker but I can attest that Felis Margarita is pretty great! If you guys ever use this recipe, be sure to let me know!

What is this obsession with overdoing (squee spree) animals? What’s wrong with variety?
I haven’t noticed a lack of variety at all. There are several posts every day and only one of them per day are the dedicated ‘sqee spree’ animal. The fact it’s guaranteed to see one specific animal for five days and they get the first spot along with some extra commentary is not what I would qualify as ‘overdoing’ it but if that’s how you feel then so be it.
