The video of Kookaburra calls from the Cincinnati zoo was wonderful!
His cute little feet make him look kinda shy.
I love those widdle pigeon toes
“I didn’t even know what a Kookaburra was!” Well, there are several facts you should know. For example, traditionally kookaburra sits in the old gum tree. Merry merry king of the bush is he, even laughing repeatedly. I wonder that they’re not endangered, because they are famous for leading gay lives. Certainly this one is going for the urban gay punk look; I suspect he’d be wearing spiked leather if it weren’t a question of takeoff weight.
While not everyone knows what kookaburras look like, anyone who’s ever watched an old-time adventure movie knows their “laughter” — it’s been used from time immemorial on film soundtracks whenever a scene takes place in a jungle. (Never mind that those jungles are usually in Africa or Asia, and of course kookaburras are only found in Australia.) Oh, and they really are floofy-cute!
i love the kookaburra song! we used to sing that in music class when i was in elementary! so cute!
Baby Kookas are so cute. I once watched an adult Kookaburra after it had caught a mouse or rat. It was on a tree branch and it was really amazing to watch it (it thrashed the rodent against the branch and then flew off so it could eat it). I suppose it sounds gross, but watching nature in action (the stuff you don’t usually get to see) is really great.
Thank you Nincompoop, Im back to being 5 years old again when they would sing this on Barney
They’re cute and all but soooo annoying when they wake you up in the morning haha. Also, I used to have this wooden duck thing in my front yard and this one kookaburra used to sit next to, or on it everyday ^_^ it was soooo cute!
Every time I go camping as soon as we go to cook food without fail a Kookaburra will be spotted a few feet away, usually on a tree branch just watching for any meat. Once I saw one dive down and snatch a piece of steak off a guys fork as he was going to eat it lol. As for their song I love waking up to the sound of Kookaburras in the morning! I’ve been living in a more city area this past year and I never get to hear them anymore, I miss it…
My mother lives in Australia, and she feeds the Kookaburras every day. She feeds them so much, that she can now feed most of them by hand, and she has got about 13 kookas eating there! I even tried to feed them last time i was there, but i got closer than having one on my knee.
Kookaburras are awesome. They’re a kind of kingfisher. Back in uni, a friend lost his sandwich to a kookaburra – it just swooped down and took it out of his hands. They have great big heads, too – they’re pretty easy to recognise.
That one looks like a youngster, to me. Spring has just sprung here and there are young birds everywhere. The currawongs (look ‘em up) currently flock to a bush in my yard to devour the inedible red berries it grows, and my cat has spent the last few days sitting in the big window overlooking it, making “eck-eck-eck” sounds. The birds are bigger than she is, though – she’s kept safely behind glass
I’m looking forward to enjoying spring. Canberra’s rubbish in winter.
