Did you know, cougars are the biggest “lesser big cats”? That means they’re the biggest kittehs capable of purring. I’d really love to hear a giant purr up close!

Actually, tigers (which are bigger than cougars, last I knew) can purr. I’ve personally experienced a purring tiger.
It’s a great rumbly sound. I love how petting a domestic cat, especially a purring one, releases endorphins and lowers your blood pressure. Here’s a short video of a cheetah purring, I’d love to be there rubbing that big cat’s head! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drq_ww7Ytzw
Here’s a good site with purring info: http://purring.org/
There has historically been debate about what constitutes “purring,” but at the very least, cheetahs can purr in the most classical sense (as you will see ^_^).
Yeh, i was gonna say tigers definately purrr, so can cheetahs, and i have heard a puma make purr like sounds too, oh and a lion kinda purring too
So. Adorable.
You only want them to purr where you can see them, growing up where I did an invisible purr meant bad things
those two are adorable though and they get to stay together as the same zoo adopted them *cheer*
“I has a flavur…”
“Why yes. Yes you do.” XD

Here’s a cougar purring for ya
*nearly dies from an attack of cuteness* Snow leopards can also purr! Which is another reason why they are the most awsum of kittehs. Still, cougars and so cute! And you can have a house-kitteh wiff teh same colorationz.
I’ve heard a couple of leopards make a sound that seemed like a friendly growl-like noise that I think is their purr. All the experts I’ve heard at animal places and on TV say that tigers can’t purr, but they chuff. Would be cool if they purred, though.
Cheetahs can purr, too, but I think they’re maybe a little smaller than cougars.
I don’t believe those “experts”, because I have personally experienced having a tiger purr at me, and having had cats my whole life, I *know* what a purr sounds like.
Sorry there’s no way a cheetah is smaller than a cougar….. Anyway, they do purr. I heard one on Wednesday at the Lion Park in Jhb S Africa.
[...] there you have it! As discussed this weekend, cougars do indeed [...]
