joltofcolor: ”This is my hedgehog Kona when he was 6 weeks old. He was incredibly tiny and sooo cute!”
Aw, baby hedgehogs look just just like chestnut shells! Hey, fun nerd trivia: Did you know Goombas from Mario are supposed to be chestnuts? Their Japanese name is “kuribo” which is a Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound they make when you jump on them (Japanese onomatopoeias are weird!) but the kanji for “kuri” can mean “chestnut” and “bo” can mean “boy.” It was never really confirmed until the penultimate stage of New Super Mario Brothers Wii, 9-7, where Goombas pop out of giant chestnut shells if you hit them with fireballs! And those spiky chestnut shells are also similar to the giant spiky balls that float in the water in Super Mario World, which was also a game where Goombas were redesigned to look more like chestnuts than mushrooms. Nerd trivia!

Maybe there should be a baby animal squeespree. That would be fun!
I thought Goombas were originally based on shiitake mushrooms.
Hi! I just received an email full of adorable pics of animals.
I would like to forward it to daily squee. But I couldn’t find an email address. Is there one?
Perhaps you could email me and give it to me?
lots of love
OMG TINY HEDGEHOGSQUEE! ^.^<3 *boops*
On a side note, Mr. Squeehost, the more you reference Pokemon and video games, the more I love you. That is all.
Why does Goomba’s bio say “A mushroom who betrayed the Mushroom Kingdom” then?
It’s actually named for the noise it makes when it jumps, not when you jump on it! Rabbits are called pyon-pyon for the same reason.
Hedgehog: Mai feets awr warrmmmm…
I always thought goombas were tiny…uh, THOSE THINGS, IN GUYS’ PANTS…
