OMG, this bunny! It’s so… different! It looks more like a doll of a bunny than an actual bunny. Does anyone know what this species is called?
oooohh, his head is almost perfectly round, and that little white tuft on his head, and little black gem eyes, and ears I just want to nibble. Saving for my screensaver collection
Boop bunny?
Infant cottontail! Squeeee!
It’s just a cute wild baby bun! I had a Netherland Dwarf rabbit that this little guy looks just like. The Netherland Dwarfs are the sqee of the bunny breeds, far as I’m concerned.
The type of bunny is: the BEST type!
He is by far the squeeest bunneh Ive ever had the pleasure to squee.
Oh my goodness, that has to be teh cutest bunneh EVAH!!
it looks kind of like an ewok
YOU hit it on the head! Now I know where they got their inspiration for the Ewoks looks.
Looks like a baby (kitten) Eastern Cottontail.
Um… I think that might be a Lion-Head bunny… He’s so cute!!!
This is just your average, everyday backyard wild rabbit. I have taken care of and raised many of these bunnys from babies. It was the cutest, I wish I had pictures, we used to bottle feed the baby bunnies by hand and they were the most beautiful cutest things on earth. As babies, ALL baby bunnies are born with a tell tale spot on their forehead. Kinda like a baby fawn (deer) with spots on it’s back end! Of course as always I can’t resist, SO SQUEE!
Not all baby bunnies are born with a white spot on their heads. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Try breeding rabbits for 19 years and see how many with white spots you get.
The white spot exists due to the fact that the rabbit must be a carrier of the vienna gene, a recessive gene which when carried produces white, Dutch-like markings, and when both alleles of the recessive are present, produce a blue-eyed white rabbit.
Get some facts people.
Interesting info. I know nothing about bunnies (or much else anymore!) Do you mean that if two of the bunnies with the white spot/vienna gene were to mate there would be white, blue eyed wild bunnies/ everyday type rabbits? I’ve never seen any in the wild but that doesn’t mean they aren’t out there. I’m an old lady and I have watched critters all my life but I’ve only seen a few rare ones. Thanks
Maybe all WILD baby bunnies are born with a white spot on their foreheads. That’s what I took Ilufs to mean in her post. She said she raised wild rabbits and not domesticated rabbits.
It’s called Thumper!
Baby american cottontail, yup! …random fact: Did you know the American cottontail is so genetically different from English rabbits (which the current domestic rabbit breeds come from) that they can’t even crossbreed?
I should say that they can’t successfully crossbreed. They have different numbers of chromosomes, so like the child of a donkey and a mule, any offspring that live to be born are sterile.
That’s really interesting, I hadn’t heard that before!
I think you mean the child of a donkey and a horse– the mule is the offspring.
As Omviam said, I agree, that is very interesting.
A cute baby cottontail! They turn white during the winter season.
Oh, nevermind, I’m wrong! It’s the snowshoe hare that turns white during the winter.
I don’t get to see the baby rabbits that live in my neighborhood, but I bet this is what they look like. The adult bunnies are undoubtedly Eastern cottontails. We see them when the dog and I walk at 5 am (long before the sun comes up) in suburban D.C.
I think my heart just melted :’)
Eastern Cottontail! Raised thousands! Squee everytime, except when ppl steal them from Mom, thinking they are “abandoned”. They die alot when this happens. There is NO SUBSTITUTE for real MOM.
I don’t know why, but everytime I see this bunny I’m reminded of george lopez.
I have no Idea what you’re really called, but I dub thee Squirrel-Bunny.
OMG i’ll take 100
He looks so deep in thought, maybe he just realized we’re staring at him and he’s trying to stay still for his close-up!
