Whatsit Wednesday: Quail Quail Quail, What Do We Have Here?

cute baby animals - Whatsit Wednesday: Quail Quail Quail, What Do We Have Here?

Oh, that’s right, here we have some lovely quails! Which I guess aren’t that strange or whatsit-y, but I’ve always been a fan of their weird little head-swoopy things!

… also, am I the only one who can’t help but think of the old Nickelodeon show “Doug” every time I see a quail?

    adorables!!!

Those are California Quail (a female and her youngins) and that feather on their heads is called a topknot. :)

And I must be dense but I don’t follow your Doug reference (either I’m dense or I’m old….combo of both, methinks).

A popular Nickelodeon cartoon in the 90′s called “Doug” followed the typical daily struggles of a pre-teen boy named Doug. When he was facing a touch situation, he would fantasize about handling it as his made-up superhero, Quail Man– who wore his underwear outside his pants and a belt on his head sticking up to look like that thing on a quail’s head. Yay 90′s TV!!! lol.

I once stopped my car on a Northern California back road to let a family of Quail cross – I thought they looked just like a question mark (momma) followed by a line of periods (the chicks) – totally adorable!!!

I see these guys in my neighborhood here in AZ and when they’re running crazily across the road I always think they look like they’re rushing because they’re late to a meeting.
