Prague Zoo recently welcomed its first-ever Dall (Alaskan) Sheep lamb. Dall births are a fairly rare occurrence for zoos in general.

The lamb’s sex has yet to be determined, but the obvious give away will be whether or not it grows long, curled horns (a defining trait among Dall males). Though as a lamb it resembles its more domestic cousins, the lamb is more playful and dexterous — traits mirroring a mountain goat’s — thanks to its wild cousins’ need to navigate the rugged terrain of the Alaskan wilderness.

Perhaps in other countries its rare for Dall lambs to be born, but every year i see new dall lambs at the local zoo. Just saying…
OMG!!! I can’t breathe looking at this!!!
We watched a passle of Dall lambs playing on the side of a mountain late one night while hiking in Denali. It was about 10:30 pm (still plenty light, as it was late June) and we sat and watched them chase each other and jump off of a rocky outcropping. It was wonderful!
Hello Dall-y!
Oh my – too bad it’s not cute!!
Please note that the adjective is “Alaska” not “Alaskan.” An Alaskan is a person. Dall sheep are Alaska wildlife. Using “Alaskan” as an adjective is like saying Washingtonian apples or Floridian oranges or Californian wine. As an Alaskan and an editor, this is a very irritating error seen all too often.
