Who says humans are the only animals capable of pulling off daring and dangerous rescue missions? When no other member of her pride was willing to help rescue her cub, this courageous lioness took matters into her own paws.

See the rest of this rescue mission after the jump!

Yeah for the Lioness!
Ooh, you know that baby lion was in big trouble after that…
What a good mama!
How many times i see stuff like that and wish some humans would give that much s**t
Happens every day all over the world. Humans frequently expend much more effort and enormous cost to rescue other humans in danger. I don’t understand how you aren’t aware of that fact.
the majority don’t care actually, but it only takes a few good people in a crowd to do the daring rescues
…what do you mean ‘some humans’…?
I think there plenty of ppl who live sacrificially for not only their loved ones but complete strangers. Who says we can’t use more of it in the world tho!
Every day I’m learning that I need to BE the good I want to SEE…
Exactly!
@Polina, try this: http://www.givesmehope.com it helps!
I concur. -.-
Keyword: SOME.

Squee!!! Cute lion cub, great lioness!!! Shame on you, pride.
Go mom!! Mom power!!
Yay!! Say it again, so I can make that my cell’s ringtone!!
<— proud mama of 3
Animal world: Let’s get together and help momma rescue her baby.
Human world: Let’s get together and chastise the mother for letting her child get in a dangerous situation.
And WE’RE supposed to be the civilized ones…right on lionesses.
Exactly! If someone told me I’m behaving like an animal, I’d take it as a compliment.
You go Lionmom!
Except… the article clearly says that the other lions weren’t willing to help. And those photos clearly show that it’s just the one lioness saving her. So no, the animal kingdom is still pretty every-man-for-themself.
And let’s not disregard all that humanity has done towards trying to rescue other people. Red Cross, Volunteer Fire Departments, etc. are all pretty good examples of humanities ability to help others.
yah well… but the more human animals get, the more they tend to sensless war… (see apes)… the less human animals are, the less human animals are, the more they fight to stay alive, keep their offspring alive and well if they’re sick. sure one could argue that killing others for fun, oil or whatnot is also just being sick…
and of course one could argue, that humans are nothing else than animals themselfs… one could argue anything to death…
my point was that – all in all – animals are better at being what we call human while people tend to be rather good at ‘acting like animals’ in the not so nice way.
and yes… I know it’s a late answer.
Yeah, but put those same people on the road driving a car and watch out!! Everybody now is so ME…ME….ME!!!
Bravo!
A couple others kindda looked like they were going to go down too, but only one needed ;o
That didn’t happen to be Simba eh?
I don’t see how the rest of the pride were being indifferent. Whose “job” would it be to rescue a cub anyway?
3 of the lionesses are depicted as all looking down, perhaps even assessing the situation.
If they were Twittering the perilous event or YouTubing it, then sure: heartless bystanders.
Marvelous~! What a gr8 save!
awesome!
AWESOME!! But this would have been TRULY GREAT if more deets were provided. Like, where did this happen, how did this happen, etc.
These pictures were taken by: Jean-Francois Largot at the Kenya Masai Mara game reserve in August 2011.
Where did this happen: In a place where lions live free.
How did this happen: Lion cub wandered away from mama and fell off the edge of a huge ditch.
Do you really need more than that?

Best mom ever!
lion king irl?
my first thought too
Isn’t this where Scar tosses her back off the cliff?
No way! Samba avenged Mufasa’s *shudders*
Mufasa’s *shudders again*
Mufasa’s death by sticking the hyenas on Scar…
guess he didn’t heed to his own advice in his song, “Be Prepared”…
I love it. I wish more human mamas were like this.
Wait, I thought Mufasa was the one who fell down the cliff not Simba.
no musafa got trampled by wildabeasts, and simba climbed back up the cliff with scar at the top.
Totally amazing, cats have got to be the most awesome creatures on earth
Simba’s ALWAYS getting into trouble.
This brought a tear to my eye~!! SO cute!
Yay!
A new meaning for teh word “grounded”…which I bet teh cub is now!
Of the three lions about to head down the bank in the second photo, the one in the middle is a subadult male. He’s started to grow a mane. It’s more obvious on the larger photos at the Daily Mail site
I just happened to be listening to The Lion King when I came across this
What a brave mother lion.
That’s one of the billion reasons I wish I was a furry
XD NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Go baby mama. <3
