Whatsit Wednesday: Little Devils!

cute animals - Whatsit Wednesday: Little Devils!

Squee lovers, this week’s whatsits are wee lil’ Tasmanian devil joeys! Given the Looney Tunes reputation they have, I think it’s always quite comforting to see photos of them as tiny, adorable angels. It certainly offsets the devilish reputation that comes with their name!

Ah! I love that first photo! They look just like they’re in tasmanian-devil love.

  2. Aspy says:

Awwww, despite their reputation Tassie Devils can be so sweet and squee.

During a holiday there I went to the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary and witnessed two of the cutest things.

    1) When one of the keepers picked up one of the adults so everyone could have a closer look the devil went and hid her head under his arm like she was shy.

    2) There was a seperate enclosure for a mother and her joeys, who were all enjoying a nap in the sun (on top of their mum, of course!) but when we approached the babies ran back into their den; but then the mother went and dragged them back out! It was as if she was saying ”It’s just HUMANS, kids, don’t be so silly!”

They are so very cute but sadly in need of help

Despite the horrendous noises they make these guys can be pretty cute to watch. I saw some Tassie Devils at what I guess you’d call a small but quite open native animal zoo in Tasmania. They were kept in an enclosure that seriously had a wall they could EASILY have jumped over from what I could tell, but I guess they wanted to stay close to where they are fed cause they didn’t even try. Also, despite being nocturnal these little guys were running around like crazy in daylight, tackling each other and running in out of the little borrows in their enclosure. They’re a lot like puppies actually…until they viciously bite your hand off anyway.

  5. Chazz says:

Tasmanian Devils are absolutely *adorable* in picture form. And some videos. Just so long as they don’t start screeching, howling and looking like they want to eat your face.

  6. Pansyp says:

Yay! Tasmanian Devils need to feature on Daily Squee! Please post more and, while you’re at it, let people know they are desperately in need of help!

  7. Tassie Girl says:

Even cuter, another name for baby devils is imps

  8. gnarynhar says:

One of my favourite native animals.
And seconding Rach, do check out http://www.tassiedevil.com.au/tasdevil.nsf and make a donation. Totally cute and important to the ecosystem, help to save these cuties!

Tazzie sibling is saying, “I got your back, bro…”

  10. Mollywobbles says:

I have loved Tasmanian devils ever since I first saw a picture of them. Sure, they can be quite mean and make some horrendous noises, but so can a lot of the animals featured on Squee – and they’re all utterly adorable. ^_^

  11. Lauren says:

I live in Tasmania, and my house backs onto the bush, meaning that we occasionally get Tassie Devils in our back yard. They do make a quite scary squealing/grunting noise, but they are really shy and will usually run off when they see humans. I’ve never known one to bite a human unless it was provoked. Plus, they’re only the size of a small dog, not exactly large enough to do a great deal of damage.
It’s really sad that they have a contagious face cancer, which is spread easily when they bite each other :(

  12. Raparee says:

They’re absolutely adorable! They remind me of very vocal and opinionated cats with a serious overabundance of personality (in a good way). ;)

It’s terrible about the face cancer. I hate to think of any animal suffering such a debilitating disease and the horrible prolonged agony of it. I wish I could do something.
