This hedgehog is a bit of a hipster, right? “Oh I’m just casually sitting in a ball, perfectly out of center, and someone just happened to get a pic of me with a vintage filter on.”

Look at him lickin’ his lips! I bet it was good… What do you think he just ate?

Ahhh, hedgehog jazzhands! It’s like he’s saying “Ta-dah!” after curling into a ball.

Aw! That little ridge in their head is called the “reverse mohawk” and even though hedgies are normally all jumpy, I could sometimes slooowly stick my finger in there and pet my hedgehog’s head without him noticing. And, hey look, day #4 of the Hedgehog Squee Spree! We made it! And tomorrow is Labraday, so I guess this is the last day of the hedgehog streak! That was fun though. COMMENTERS! You should all nominate (in the comments) the next animal you want me to do a Squee Spree for, and I’ll announce the “winner” on Sunday and try to get some posted all week until I run out of pics. (Make sure you upload some pics of the animals you’re nominating so I have some images of it to post.) LETS DO THIS!

Hedgy pic day #3! We’re “on a roll”. By the way, there’s no need to be concerned about this hedgehog’s behavior, I’ve owned several hedgies and I’m pretty sure what he’s doing is called “anointing.” BASICALLY, when a hedgehog gets a flavor or smell he really likes (like if you give him a strawberry) he’ll foam at the mouth and then lick the foam onto his spikes to ‘store’ the flavor for later. But also sometimes if they really like their owner they will anoint themselves with foam of their owner’s natural scent. It’s adorable! And kind of disgusting. BUT MOSTLY ADORABLE!
Edit: Commenter ShinyHappyGoth has provided us with the REAL reason that hedgehogs do this (I knew the reason I heard was too adorable to be true!):
That’s actually not it at all! Hedgehogs don’t do this because they like the flavour and are trying to store it, they do it when they encounter a NEW scent or flavour which, as far as they know, might be toxic. Hedgehogs are highly resistant to most toxins, so they will lick up the mystery substance and smear it all over their spines, in an attempt to make THEMSELVES (potentially) toxic.
That’s actually waaay cooler. LETS KEEP THIS HEDGEHOG PARADE GOING. Everyone upload more hedgie pictures!

It’s always Hedgy-Time somewhere!

OMG! He’s adorable but I’d hate to find him there by surprise. Also, the other day I spoke to someone in real life about DailySquee, and he said “you post too many hedgehogs.” Which is funny because I’m pretty sure I don’t post enough hedgehogs! Moar hedgehogs?
