Okay, you guys got me… you set me up in front of a complex lighting system and a REALLY expensive DSLR for the express purpose of watching me pray, seeing that I’m a praying mantis and whatnot… but I gotta confess something to you now… I DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO PRAY! I WAS RAISED AGNOSTIC! My father’s never stepped foot inside a church in his life, and my mom only did once, and that was because there was a bake sale happening and she has a huge sweet tooth! So um, yeah… this is awkward.

Sure, the mantis doesn’t have quite as much cred in kung fu canon as the tiger does, but I ain’t even mad! I still know how to keep the clan in the front, and I know how to protect my neck, and I know ALL of the mysteries of chessboxing. And heck, I even understand that cash rules everything around me (C.R.E.A.M.). So that qualifies me for a black belt and a Wu-Tang guest verse, right?

This beautiful creature is just so aptly named. I mean, think about it. While s/he struts around regally in those beautiful lilac hues, the rest of the animal kingdom is spending all their time just praying they are even remotely attractive enough to be qualified for a date with her. If only they all better understood the “wonders” of the praying mantis mating ritual…
